
REV. DR JOYCE ROSALIND ARYEE
Reverend Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee stands as a distinguished figure in Ghana, embodying a remarkable blend of leadership, public service, and spiritual devotion. Currently the Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries and the Founder and President of Joyce Aryee Consult, she brings over four decades of invaluable experience to her multifaceted roles.
Her extensive career includes a significant tenure as the first woman to head an African Chamber of Mines, serving as the Chief Executive Officer of The Ghana Chamber of Mines for a decade (2001-2011). This pivotal role showcased her exceptional leadership within the minerals industry, where she championed the integration of social responsibility and dialogue with the government to promote sustainable mining.
Dr. Aryee’s commitment to national development is further underscored by her service in the government of the People’s National Defence Council (PNDC) from 1983 to 1991, where she held the positions of Secretary for Information and later Education. She also contributed to the democratization process as a non-cabinet inister at the National Commission for Democracy. Earlier in her career, she served as a Public Relations Officer at the Ghana Standards Board and Environmental Protection Council, and held roles at the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board and the West Africa Examinations Council.
Recognized for her profound contributions, she was awarded the Companion of the Order of the Volta, the second highest national award in Ghana, in 2006. She has also been named among the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining. In recognition of her impact on the mining sector, the University of Mines & Technology (UMaT) conferred an honorary doctorate degree on her in July 2009. Further acknowledging her expertise, Central University awarded her a Doctor of Communication Arts degree (Honoris Causa) in May 2021.
Beyond her professional achievements, Rev. Dr. Aryee is a dedicated mentor for the African Leadership Initiative and the Moremi Initiative for Women in Leadership for African Development (MILEAD) Foundation, nurturing the next generation of African leaders. Her spiritual leadership is evident in her role as Founder and Chairperson of the Harmonious Chorale, an award-winning non-denominational choral organization. She also serves on numerous boards, including the Volta River Authority and Central University (as Pro Chancellor). Her dedication to sustainable mining is well-known, as is her passion for the Arts. In 2022, she was appointed chairperson of the committee overseeing funds for victims of the Appiatse explosion.
