On Thursday, 29th May 2025, a delegation from the Africa Centre for Nature-based Climate Action (AC4NCA) paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA) to formally introduce the Centre and explore areas for meaningful collaboration. The delegation, which was led by the Board Chairman of the Centre, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, included the Ag. Executive Secretary, Mrs. Juliet Osei-Wusu, and a Member of the Board, Mr. Cletus Alengah.

The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Dela Kemevor, the Ministry’s Director responsible for General Administration, in the company other Directors and staff of the Ministry.

In her remarks, Rev. Aryee outlined the Centre’s mission and underscored the alignment between the Centre’s focus on nature-based climate solutions and the Ministry’s mandate to promote sustainable national development through local governance. She said that true development must not only be about the allocation of resources, but also about ensuring that growth is environmentally responsible and climate-resilient.

Rev. Aryee emphasized the urgent need for climate action, highlighting the unpredictable rainfall patterns and climate-related disruptions Ghana and the wider African continent are facing. She called on the Ministry to partner with the Centre to promote environmental sustainability at the local level, through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs). “As an organization, AC4NCA is committed to promoting nature-based solutions that protect ecosystems while supporting livelihoods. The Centre believes that partnering with the Ministry can empower local authorities to integrate climate resilience into their planning and actions.”

Mr. Kemevor welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the increasing climate challenges and the vital role MMDAs must play in addressing them. He assured the delegation of the Ministry’s interest in the Centre’s vision, describing the visit as timely and aligned with the Ministry’s goal of ensuring inclusive and equitable development nationwide.

Together, AC4NCA and the Ministry look forward to forging a partnership that supports local governments to act boldly on climate, protect communities, and build a greener, more resilient Ghana.
